This is a chest that dad made for us.  The lid is maple (I admit..I forgot the kind), the base is made from black walnut and the handles are made from a pear tree that dad had cut down from their yard.  The pear is a REALLY interesting wood, as it has almost no grain.  The maple is almost 3D when you catch the light just right.
