Taking down a 110 foot oak tree in the backyard
The top portion has been cut off and dropped to the ground. He is now tieing off a section to be cut from the top. The rope holding it up is slack as the tree is still resting against the other one

The rope they used to keep the tree upright and to hold the sections they cut and hung from the crane is about an inch thick and has a breaking strength of about 10000 pounds. I found that hard to believe until I saw a 15-20 foot section of the tree hanging from the crane on the rope.

The next section has been cut and is hanging from the crane. The tree is no longer resting against the other one. It is being held up with another piece of that rope that runs through a couple of blocks and tackle and is hooked to the little truck in the next photo. The truck is pulled forward to increase the tension on the rope and hold the tree in place.

One of the other crew climbed up the trunk (still held up by the rope and assisted by the crane) to get ready to remove another 15-20 feet.

The next section has been removed and laid on the ground leaving about 20 feet of tree still standing and held up by the little six wheeler and the rope.

This last section was cut at the base with a chain saw and dropped into our yard. All of the tree was cut up and hauled away. The entire job took about 12 hours.
